I am having a great time playing with Mixed Media and decorating things. Two weeks ago it was Altoid Tins that I loved doing. This week I am decorating a cigar box. I bought some empty Cigar boxes from Thompsons Cigar Co and they are awesome. I got 10 for 19.95 and I love them. 10 should last me forever because I cant see me doing a ton of these boxes but I love this one. First thing I did was get the box ready it looked like this before I started. Then I covered it in Gesso from Hobby Lobby in the paint department, It gives the paint something to grip on to and makes the paint cover better to get the box all one color. Next I painted it a teal green cover because I was doing crackle paint and I wanted the bottom layer the teal my bedroom is teal and tan. :-) I forgot to take a picture at this point but used Liquitex Basics acrylic paint. Then when that dryed I applied a heavy coat of crackle medium I also got at Hobby Lobby. I used Delta crackle medium and let it dry and get tacky. It says not to let it dry completely. I hear that some crackles have to dry completely this one does not. Then I took a large sea sponge and got it wet and wrung it out and applied the last coat of paint with the sponge. If you wipe the crackle or make strokes sometimes the crackle rubs off so I chose to use a sponge. If you wipe I hear that the paint crackles in the direction you paint the last coat on so I didnt want line cracks I wanted more spider cracks. I am thrilled with the way it turned out. Isn't it beautiful?
That turned out so beautiful!!!! Wonderful job...and isn't it SO addicting!!!
